#FlashbackFriday starts us off with our first day of the series Sponsoring Nationwide Children’s Hospital: Before, Now, and Then
Before:
Hal, our general manager here at E.E. Ward, ran the Boston Marathon in 1979. By far his favorite race, he ran it with two friends from college for the thrill and excitement of the event.
He admits he is decently competitive and since you have to qualify in order to run for the Boston Marathon, the race was definitely not one just for fun.
He kiddingly recalls running through a girls’ college campus within Boston as one of the highlights. But on a more serious note, the race is a great memory for him recalling the nostalgia of it all. He says, “It was awesome just to be there” for the comradery and just to finish it altogether.
The Drake Relays in Iowa is what got him there in the first place, but finishing is what got him here today. 26.2 miles is definitely something to be proud of, something to never forget. And he definitely remembers it well.
Here at E.E. Ward, we are proud sponsors of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Full and Half Marathon encouraging those who are experienced runners but also those just training for the fun of the event to enjoy this glorious day that awaits you Sunday, October 18th!
Good luck to all who are training. You are 16 days out.
