We’re finishing off with the last day of our series Sponsoring Nationwide Children’s Hospital: Before, Now, and Then
Then: Every Mother Counts
Dominique Reighard ran the Columbus Marathon in 2014, but plans on having more to show this year by seeking to race the New York City Marathon with meaning. By “raising awareness and funds for a wonderful non-profit called ‘Every Mother Counts,” says Dominique, she is running for a cause that truly inspires her. She awaits the incomparable energy of being surrounded by more than 50,000 runners from all over the world, including 10,000 volunteers and over 2.5 million spectators that line the course every year. By racing through New York’s five boroughs, she anticipates another incredible memory; one she’ll treasure the rest of her life.
As an ambassador for Every Mother Counts, her focus is raising “awareness for women around the world who die every day from complications of pregnancy or childbirth. 800 women die on any given day, and 98% of these deaths are preventable,” she says.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, E.E. Ward would like to shine light on the fact that breast cancer is not a one-month test but a lifetime of changes and battles. Being a mother or even being a woman is no easy plight, especially since 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. As E.E. Ward sponsors both Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and Dominique Reighard as she prepares for her race, we want all of our supporters to realize breast cancer, pregnancy complications, and motherhood are no easy journey.
Dominique’s simple, yet attainable, goal is to finish injury free, raise awareness of ‘Every Mother Counts’, and inspire others to do the unthinkable by running this marathon. More than anything though she just wants to enjoy the experience for what it is and bask in this incredible race!
Have a great race, runners!
