An exciting new agreement has been reached thanks to our Columbus Mayor, Michael B. Coleman. He has decided to join Accra’s Mayor Alfred O. Vanderpuije as well as other Ghanaian leaders, the Columbus City Council, The Franklin County Board of Commissioners, and the members of our own Columbus community in making Accra, Ghana in Africa our newest sister city. Not only is Accra our newest sister city here in Columbus, but it is also our first sister city in Africa.
On Monday, November 30, 2015, at the King Arts Complex on Mt. Vernon Avenue, Coleman signed to make this agreement official. Coleman’s determination to not leave his position without having linked the communities of these two great cities has definitely paid off. Thousands of Ghanaians live here in Columbus. So there is already an incredibly strong bond between the cities and the culture between them!
Already, the Accra-Columbus Sister City Committee has raised $5,000 for Accra and its programs. The opportunities beyond this initial progress are infinite, and the community as well as E.E. Ward’s team is eager to see where this prized relationship takes both Accra and Columbus.
