Our second annual Laps for Lunches event is 5 weeks away! Our team can’t wait to partner with Grand Prix Karting to put on an awesome, fun, and meaningful event benefitting the Eldon and Elise Ward Family YMCA, YWCA Family Center, and St. Phillips Episcopal Church Food Pantry.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we will be posting blogs and videos spotlighting the amazing organizations supporting our effort to fight food insecurity here in Central Ohio. In the past few weeks, we have had the pleasure to meet with some of the staff members at the Eldon and Elise Ward YMCA Family Center. Featured in the video are Al Obayuwana, District Executive Director, and Aja Mays, Youth Development Director.
The YMCA provides meals to families struggling with poverty and unemployment who are challenged by food insecurity. Children of these families benefit from an after-school meal program in addition to the after-school program, the Y offers two free meals a day to members in need.
Another feature offered by the Y is the learning garden. This garden was created to grow fruits and vegetables for families to take home and to teach the kids about cooking and growing food. The Eldon and Elsie Ward Family YMCA provide a comfortable home for families and children in times of crisis. It gives them a place to go in a time of need, to get food, work out, play sports, get help, and as Al says in a video, “build a family”.
The team here at E. E. Ward supports everything this YMCA branch has been doing to help food insecurity in Ohio and hopes to further their efforts after Laps for Lunches. Please consider donating or buying tickets to our event Laps for Lunches here taking place on August 12th!
