Laps for Lunches was a success! On Friday, August 14th, E.E. Ward Moving & Storage sponsored the first-time fundraiser Laps for Lunches, an event that had a goal to raise enough money to provide 1,881 lunches to youth and families in Columbus. We are excited to announce that the goal was surpassed with donations totaling enough to provide 2,005 meals.
Columbus residents came out to E.E. Ward’s event at Grand Prix Karting to support the meal provision efforts of the YWCA family Center, The Eldon & Elsie Ward Family YMCA, and St. Philip Episcopal Food Pantry. All three charities are located in the Woodland Park area of Columbus, and focus on providing meals to Franklin County families in need. Former owner of E.E. Ward Moving & Storage, Eldon Ward, was known for his philanthropic efforts in this area.
Laps for Lunches featured the opportunity to take fast laps in the new, high-speed facility at Grand Prix Karting and to have a photos taken with NASCAR Xfinity driver Dakoda Armstrong. The event also featured an auction consisting of a Winfield #43 car hood signed by the King of Motorsports, Richard Petty and Dakoda Armstrong, one of Petty’s signature Charlie 1 Horse hats signed by him as well and a backpack filled with gift cards and an iPad Mini.
The goal of 1,881 lunches, based on the year of E.E. Ward’s founding in 1881, was surpassed with a total of 2,005 meals. The Eldon & Elsie Ward YMCA provides after-school lunches to children in need every day of the week during the school year. St. Philip Episcopal Food Pantry is a partner of the Mid-Ohio Food Bank serving zip codes 43203 and 43205, though they don’t turn away people coming from outside their jurisdiction. The YWCA Family Center is a shelter that provides emergency stabilization services to homeless families, and serves 3 meals a day to their usually at-capacity facility.
E.E. Ward Moving & Storage is committed to continuing our long tradition of giving back to the community. We would like to thank the people of Franklin County who came out to help their fellow community members, our co-presenters North American Van Lines and Richard Petty Motorsports and our sponsors SkafCo Financial, Telhio Credit Union, Alterra Real Estate Advisors, Rockbridge Capital and Fleetmaster Leasing.
