Didn’t see you there! You caught me writing my very 1st personal blog for E.E. Ward.

“The Pablo Picasso” of Interns

Well first things first, my name is Amberly McGee! Nice to meet everyone. I’m 23 years old and a 5th year senior at The Ohio State University, which I am graduating May of 2013. I am pursuing my Bachelors degree in Art and minoring in Art History. As I assume you may already know, I am E.E. Ward’s (one and only) newest intern! So I should explain a little about myself. I’m from a small town (about an hour-ish from Columbus) called Zanesville, Ohio. Yes, yes, it is the place where the wild animals got loose, and no, I was not there to see it happen. Unfortunately, but what I will do for you guys is wear my faux fur bear vest every Thursday of the month and you’re welcome to stop in and get your picture taken with a Zanesville bear cub (just kidding I’m not a bear).

Anyway I’m pretty sure I am entering my second “full” week into my internship with E.E. Ward (maybe third week?). That’s what happens when you give up all of your time, you loose track of it… I can give you a brief description of my life as I know it right now..

.. The Life of an Intern at E.E. Ward
So I should probably start out with how this came to be my life.

Well, deciding to go to grad school or jump into a career is a little harder than you would think. So many new questions are coming up. Like, “What if I can’t get hired?” “Should I go to grad school?” and “Is grad school really going to make a big difference?” etc. There are so many new and frustrating obstacles that are yet to come. But this is where E.E. Ward comes to the rescue. The thought of having some excellent interning experience to back up my resume is absolutely grand!
Just the fact that I’m still new and I have already learned so many new productive essentials that college wouldn’t have exactly prepared me for. Especially when it comes to (good ole’ fashioned) hands on experience. Being an Art major I am very familiar with positive critiques and using those to benefit my next project. (Or the project that they make me do over again). So having those one on one training lessons with my coworkers and bosses has been quality in my education so far.

•    What do I love most about my internship with E.E. Ward?
    I love my awesome desk of course, it even came with a desk phone I get to answer and a grey chair… (just kidding) More importantly I am learning the business and logical side to marketing and design. Even throwing some journalism experience in there with the multiple blogs I get to write and post in the near future. Also including social media advertising, logical statistics, communication skills, and more. I feel that I am becoming a well rounded individual that is becoming educated with the work force rules and my very own capabilities.
•    What do I think I can gain from my experience at my internship with E.E. Ward?
 Tons and tons of things to gain, of course! This actually brings me to my first topic. Which was recently brought to my attention that is a common theme with my generation is that we don’t like to pick up the phone. Learning to look for my bosses number when my phone rings or even picking up the phone to check-in with my boss for finished assignments. This is excellent to become familiar with and extremely articulate when it comes to communication. Even in the office I get to communicate with customers by taking calls, transferring calls to people who are in the very next room to me (it’s great stuff). But again, communication is a fantastic trick that I have already became familiar with and will definitely come in handy down the road.
And Doing those dreaded assignments. This is very important, (by very I mean “the most important“) for experience, is my own discipline and time management. Completing several assignments throughout the week can get stressful but it will not only set me apart from the rest, but it shows humility and a willingness to go the extra mile. I’m putting my best effort towards everything I do!

I hope you guys enjoyed my tiny interview.  I’m sure there are 1000 perks to come along with being the fresh face intern with E.E. Ward. But I’m glad I could share the more brief details with you and a little about me. Most importantly I will see you guys again soon! Until next time, Happy Moving!
