Preparing Youth for Business Through Advocacy and Education

The journey to the 1^st Annual Franklin County Youth Lemonade Day began yesterday in Reynoldsburg at the Home Depot on Brice Road. This program is designed to be a safe and fun, community-building activity. So for the next four weeks, those registered young people across Franklin County will be put through a crash course on business management, where they will be learning all about entrepreneurship, and what it takes to run a business.

Yesterday was the beginning of business planning and will continue until the young participants open up their lemonade stands on July 19^th all across the county.

“I think it will benefit them when they mature to want to make money in other ways besides street pharmaceuticals and those types of things that are easily available,” (Nina Craddolph).

As the job readiness of these young individuals is increased through the enhancement of their responsibility and leadership skills, they are well positioned to be ahead of the curve in shaping their futures.  Those who helped organize the program also hope that it can help aid in the decrease of violence, dropout rates, and youth unemployment.

There are currently around 170 enrollees between ages 5-18, but the hopes are that around 500 will take part in the program.
