The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio is located in Lancaster, just Southeast of Columbus. It is a not-for-profit museum whose mission is to foster knowledge and appreciation of the decorative arts; celebrate the architecture and heritage of the Reese-Peters House; and enhance the vitality and integrity of historic Lancaster. The Center provides exhibitions, public programs, art classes and workshops for all ages.
A Tradition of Progress (February 7 – May 17, 2015)
Ohio Decorative Arts 1860-1945 tells the story of Ohio through decorative arts objects, starting with the Civil War era and concluding with the event that marked the true beginning of the modern era—World War II. This time period was perhaps the most transformative in American history. Ohio artists, artisans, designers, and manufacturers played a very important role in this transformation. The exhibition will include more than 150 splendid pieces of furniture, glass, ceramics, metalwork, and textiles.
Wendel Center for Art Education
The Wendel Center for Art Education, known popularly as the “Art Garage,” is a two-story, 2,500 square-foot structure built to replace the original carriage house in 1916. A large professional studio on the first floor provides space for art students of all ages. Upstairs in the Art Garage is a family center, where parents and grandparents can work and play with their preschoolers. The mission of the Art Education Department at The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio is to educate and enlighten persons of all ages by providing interpretive and creative experiences in the decorative arts and in the architecture and heritage of the Reese-Peters House.
